Do you need a new SUV for your family in Cincinnati, Ohio? Joseph Volkswagen of Cincinnati has many quality-made SUVs for sale, including the latest Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Taos.
The Tiguan is larger, so it is better for growing families, while the Taos is excellent for commuting to your job in downtown Cincy or across the river to Covington, Kentucky. Here’s a closer look at the differences between the 2024 Tiguan and 2024 Taos SUVs.
The Tiguan seats more people than the Taos does
The biggest difference between the 2024 VW Tiguan and the Taos is that the Tiguan is bigger and can seat seven people. On the other hand, the Taos can only seat five people. In other words, the Tiguan is a midsize three-row SUV, but the Taos is considered a compact two-row crossover.
This pop-up third row in the Tiguan is intended for small children, and passengers in its second row get less seating space to accommodate those extra people. Passengers in the Taos have greater legroom, so the Taos is better if your usual passengers are adults, but the Tiguan is better when you have many children riding along.
Cargo area comparisons
What about their differences in cargo capacity? The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan and Taos have comparable cargo storage space behind their first-row seats: around 65 cubic feet. Behind their second rows, the Tiguan has 33 cubic feet for furniture or boxes, but the Taos only has 27.9 cubic feet.
However, if the third-row seats in your 2024 Tiguan are occupied by passengers, you only have 12 feet of cargo space remaining for luggage or groceries. So, when comparing both SUVs at their full seating capacity, the Taos can hold more cargo. But, the Tiguan carries more when you only have 4-5 passengers present.
The Taos is smaller than the Tiguan
This larger interior of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan makes the SUV’s exterior dimensions larger than the body of the 2024 Taos. When measuring bumper to bumper, the Tiguan is around 10 inches longer than the Taos. Its wheelbase is consequently longer by four inches, and its rear track is wider by 1.4 inches, so the Tiguan remains stable around curves given its larger size. The Taos is suited to tight parking spots and narrow turns in crowded Cincinnati traffic, as its turning radius is tighter.
Strength vs. efficiency: Which do you prefer?
Since the 2024 VW Tiguan is larger and heavier than the Taos, it’s no surprise that it uses a more powerful engine to propel it. The 2.0-liter TSI® four-cylinder turbocharged engine on the 2024 Tiguan produces 26 greater horsepower and 37 greater torque than the 1.5-liter TSI® four-cylinder turbo motor housed under the Taos hood.
The downside is that the 2024 Tiguan burns more gasoline taking you from your house to your destination in Cincinnati, Ohio. The EPA estimates that the 2024 Tiguan travels 24 miles on a single tank in downtown city traffic, but the 2024 Taos travels 4 miles further: 28 mpg in the city.[1] That higher efficiency is reflected in highway fuel economy rates as well: 31 mpg vs. 36 mpg. Thus, the Taos is better for daily commutes to Cincinnati and long Indiana road trips with your partner, while the Tiguan is stronger for carrying more people and cargo.
