Choosing the right car to drive to your workplace every day can make or break the commute. You want a vehicle that makes it easier and more enjoyable to drive through Cincinnati, not one that makes rush hour even worse. That’s why we recommend these great Volkswagen models for your daily commute, which are available at Joseph Volkswagen of Cincinnati.

Volkswagen Jetta

For years, compact sedans have been a go-to commuter car for young professionals — and it’s obvious why. Their low price, small size, and efficient engine are made to save you money when you spend a lot of time stuck in traffic.

The Volkswagen Jetta has all the characteristics of a value-oriented economy sedan. It’s the lowest-priced model in the Volkswagen lineup, with an MSRP just above $20,000.[1] Its 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine averages 29 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway — yet, using a turbocharger and direct injection, the motor has the muscle to make the Jetta light on its feet when weaving through traffic.[2]

The Jetta is one of the few commuter cars on the market that still offers a stick shift option. You’ll have a lot of fun switching gears with the six-speed manual transmission as you speed through Cincinnati to your workplace.

Volkswagen Taos

If you want a commuter car that’s a tad bigger than the Jetta — especially for rear-row occupants — but isn’t much bigger in price or fuel consumption, check out the Volkswagen Taos. As a compact crossover, it’s affordable and easy to maneuver, which comes in handy when you’re squeezing into a tight parking space at the office. And, Volkswagen adds more standard safety features for 2023 like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

The Taos shares the same turbocharged engine as the Jetta, so its extra size only lowers average fuel economy to 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.[3] Its driving dynamics are a bit different with the addition of the dual-clutch automatic transmission and available 4MOTION® all-wheel drive system. You’ll appreciate the extra stability and seamless shifting when you’re constantly accelerating and decelerating in stop-and-go rush hour traffic — especially when roads are slippery in the winter.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

Liven up your daily commute to Cincinnati by driving a car that’s sporty and sassy. The Golf GTI is an athletic hatchback that’s given drivers an exhilarating experience behind the wheel for the past 40 years. This hot hatch is light on its feet thanks to the 273 lb-ft of torque from the turbocharged engine, a sport suspension, and the advanced dynamic steering system.

Volkswagen engineers are constantly finding ways to improve the performance of the Golf GTI. This year they used a new lighter aluminum subframe and increased rear axle spring rate. Plus, the available DCC® adaptive chassis control system and VAQ limited-slip front differential lock system ensure your daily drives to the office get your adrenaline flowing.

Volkswagen Arteon

Upper management professionals have worked hard to earn their director positions; they deserve an executive car that’s as prestigious as their job title. The VW Arteon is a luxurious yet smart alternative to overpriced premium sedans from high-end automakers. It has many of the performance upgrades of the Golf GTI but an even stronger engine and added layer of luxury.

The large sedan’s sleek, chrome-accented exterior is an exquisite work of art that’s sure to catch envious glances from your staff. The leather-wrapped interior is sumptuous, with the Climatronic® tri-zone automatic climate control system keeping you comfortable during unpleasant traffic congestion.

Volkswagen ID.4

Cincinnati is an ideal city to own and drive an electric car in. You’ll find charging stations all around the metro area in Ohio and Kentucky, and many homes in the region can easily be installed with a 240-volt plug in the garage. That’s why we recommend the Volkswagen ID.4. It is easy to recharge overnight at home with a Level 2 charger and — if you have the ID.4 Pro model — has an estimated range of 275 miles on a full charge.[4]

While it does carry a higher price tag than other VW crossovers of its size, The ID.4 is designed to save you money in the long run by skipping gas fill-ups and maintenance costs like oil changes. Though, if you have a tight budget, Volkswagen now offers a lower-priced entry-level version with a 62-kWh battery pack.

Being in the driver’s seat of an electric vehicle during your commute has other advantages too, such as its silent operation that keeps the cabin tranquilly quiet. Plus, the instant torque that comes from power immediately routing from the engine to the wheels lets you launch the Volkswagen ID.4 onto the highway with no acceleration lag.

Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

Need a commuter ride that also serves as a family transporter on evenings and weekends? Take a look at the Atlas Cross Sport. It’s a midsize SUV that prioritizes spacious seating for passengers and generous cargo room in the back. Its body is similar to the large VW Atlas SUV but without that third row of seats. So, the Atlas Cross Sport boasts exceptional legroom for its class and plenty of space for your sports equipment, luggage, or groceries — even with all seats occupied.

Why is driving a sizable SUV a good option for a daily commuter vehicle? You never know when you need that extra seating for a carpool to lunch with clients, giving coworkers a lift home, or picking up your kids on the way home in the afternoon.
